Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Another wall and more wood

Another wall and more wood

I’m running low on plaster so for this weekend, I’m going to only be able to do one more wall before I pick up a few more buckets of Master of Plaster. But before I start plastering, I have more woodwork to deal with. The main door needs some stripping. I did a first pass of stripping with the SpeedHeater on one side, but the other side needs a pass of heat stripping.

After a pass using the SpeedHeater.

After the heat stripping is done, it’s on to chemical stripping to get the remaining white paint off. No longer using CitriStrip due to the blotching, I’m using Jasco’s stripper that is not as mild as CitriStrip. I let this sit for about 15 minutes before the paint is soft enough to start scraping and then scouring off.

Removing the chemical stripper.

After I scour and scrape the wet stripper, I wash things off using an AfterWash solution. The stripping is not 100% complete with still some white paint in corners and nooks and crannies, but I’ll get the remainder off at another time with one final coat of stripper.

Mostly clean, but still see some white paint spots.

Almost there.

During the stripping I removed the paint caked doorknob flange so I finish up that and the actual doorknob with an application of stripper. After the stripper is removed the wood looks pretty dull.

Stripped doorknob and hardware.

After the stripper is all removed, I do some light sanding of the doorknob and then a final wipe down with turpentine. Last up is applying boiled linseed oil to the doorknob.

Color returning after using boiled linseed oil.

In the bedroom, the wall to plaster is a small one with a window. Cutting in the plaster around the window is the trickiest part, but otherwise this plastering goes fine.

Last thing is touching up the epoxy repair on the door molding with some extra paint to hide the repair. I won’t be down next weekend, so I’ll let the stain cure for another week and also get get more plaster so I can finish off the other two walls in the room.
