Doors and Hanging Another Light

Doors and Hanging Another Light

Karen is back down this weekend so I can have her help me hang a light in the bedroom, but before that there’s always more door work to do! On the main door, that is a disaster because of the drippy stain on one side of the door. I continue trying to sand that off, but also focus on the other side of the door. This side will get another coat of stain but before that I buff out the existing coat of stain to smooth out any rough areas.

Sanding the stained side of the door that looks good.

Before Karen hangs the light, I want to do another pass of paint on the ceiling. I contacted BioShield and asked about the color discrepancies due to brushing the paint on. The rep suggested I use a low nap roller instead of a brush. I avoided using a roller because they weren’t invented until the 1940s so I was trying to stick with original 1900s methods, but I don’t think I have the brush chops to apply this paint without marks. I use a 1/4” nap roller and it does work a lot better in smoothing out any color discrepancies. It doesn’t fix it 100%, but the nature of these paints is that they do have a more complex look so I want some variation.

No more lap marks.

Now that the ceiling is done, the last piece is installing an antique light fixture I purchased on Etsy. Like all the other lights, it starts off fine until we try to hang the light and notice the bolt provided is way to short. We need to go to a local hardware store to get a longer lamp nipple and luckily they have a few sizes in stock. Now with the longer nipple, the rest of the wiring presents no issues. In addition to the fixture, I also purchased some amber colored bulbs that are supposed to mimic early 1900s lights.

Now back to the doors. The main door gets a coat of stain and this time I learn my lesson and don’t stand the door up after applying the stain.
